New Gerry Anderson Archive Material Discovered!

A screen grab from the 1955 Pentagon Films pilot for Here Comes Kandy

One of the many exciting parts of Andercon was to be able to re-write a little piece of Gerry Anderson history. Gerry always remembered and reported that Twizzle was his first experience with puppets. However, A.P. Films co-founder Arthur Provis remembered differently and thanks to some hard work, the BFI and Network Distributing we were able to unearth two amazing little pieces of history which were screened this weekend.

The first film we found was a 1956 commercial for Kellogg’s featuring Noddy that was filmed by Pentagon Films, which Gerry was a co-director of. The second film we found though was even more exciting: a Pentagon produced short puppet film also from 1956 called Here Comes Kandy – and it is in colour!

We think it’s fantastic that 60 years on little gems like this still surface and give us a new understanding of how Gerry’s puppet career began.
