It was Christmas Eve and the weather control satellite governing the Pacific Seaboard of the United States had been out of action for several days due to serious technical malfunction. That was all the time it took for an uncontrolled weather system to form and blanket much of the area with a thick layer of snow and hazardous ice. And …

The shattering crack of the explosion rocked the World Navy carrier to its keel and by the time the crew knew what had happened, the Mechanical Fish was already sinking beneath the waves. The sneak attack had been entirely successful and the Aquaphibians controlling the grotesque undersea craft knew it was only a matter of time before the WASP sent …

Continued From Previous Report The chaotic stream of bubbles spewing from the peak of the volcanic crater showed no sign of easing. Troy spoke urgently into the radio transmitter, “Stingray calling Therminos control – Do you read me? This is Captain Tempest, please respond!” The reply, mired by heavy static, was barely audible, “Stingray from Therminos. Receiving you – strength …

Troy, Phones and Marina were pressed against their seats as Stingray surged ahead, accelerating to its incredible maximum speed of 600 knots. Phones glanced at his instruments, “Rate 6 puts us just under 2 hours cruisin’ from Therminos, Troy.” “Right,” Troy answered, “and once we get there, we’re going to have to work fast. The geological readings indicate that underwater …

Continued From Previous Report Stingray cut swiftly through the undersea landscape. Inside, Troy Tempest was in contact with Marineville’s Control Tower via radio. “That Mechanical Fish attack was a diversion, Atlanta. I’m certain of it! When we got back, the Manta was gone. It’s my hunch Titan’s got them.” Even with the distortion on the radio signal, Troy could hear …

Continued From Previous Report Despite their best efforts to turn the craft from its course, Commander Shore and Phones had no success. Soon they saw a series of familiar shapes appearing from the murky depths ahead. “Commander, looks like we’re approaching Titanica,” Phones said with a sinking feeling in his heart. “That shark Titan’s behind this!” Shore rasped, “Well he …

CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS REPORT Even with speed reduced and the Manta in two, Stingray’s journey back to Marineville seemed to pass incredibly quickly. Once the super-sub positioned the old patrol craft in the repair pen and returned to its launch elevator platform, the crew went off duty and proceeded to the Commander’s private residence, where he greeted them cheerfully. “Fine …

Stingray: Reunion – A Gerry Anderson A21 News Story

Stingray cruised through the quiet waters of the Pacific Ocean like a great silver, yellow and blue fish. In the spacious cabin, Captain Troy Tempest and Lieutenant ‘Phones’ Sheridan studied their controls idly while taking the craft along the regular patrol route. Marina, the beautiful girl from under the sea, peered out through one of the starboard view-ports into the …

Continued From Previous Report Troy and Phones fought with the controls as Stingray tore relentlessly through the water. The needle on the Rate Indicator touched Six Point Seven. Troy cuffed the sweat from his brow and addressed his crew-mates, “Looks like we’re in bad trouble. If we don’t slow Stingray somehow, and soon, we’re finished!” Phones was desperately trying to free …

Even with Stingray’s powerful searchlights and the constant bleep of the hydrophone apparatus, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. The super sub cruised comfortably at Rate 1, holding a few fathoms off the sea bed as it combed the murky depths below. In the spacious control cabin, Captain Troy Tempest glanced at Lieutenant Phones. “Anything at …

About US

Gerry Anderson was born on 14 April 1929, and through a combination of skill and an incredible level of determination earned his first credit as a producer when he was still in his 20s. Years before the word ‘brand’ was popularly applied to television, Gerry’s name came to represent an inimitable style of entertainment that proved hugely successful around the world. From Fireball XL5 to Space: 1999, Captain Scarlet to Space Precinct, Supercar to Thunderbirds - he has become the UK's equivalent of Walt Disney. During the 1960s Gerry used puppetry to realise epic science fiction scenarios that would have been impossible to achieve in anything other than miniature scale. The names of the shows he produced during this era are familiar to millions, and continue to entertain audiences today. An incredible feat unsurpassed by any other British TV and film producer. As the optimism of the 1960s faded, Gerry Anderson created darker scenarios for the new decade. Live-action series UFO and Space: 1999 anticipated the accomplishments of Star Wars and are still regarded by many as his finest work. He was never content to stand still, and his programmes became increasingly diverse in the 1980s. He made a welcome return to puppetry for Terrahawks and brought the animated private detective Dick Spanner to the screen, while developing a parallel career as an award-winning director of sophisticated television commercials. In the 1990s he created and produced the lavish live-action series Space Precinct, before returning to children’s entertainment with the enchanting Lavender Castle. In 2001 he was awarded an MBE for services to the British film industry. The astonishing New Captain Scarlet premièred in 2005, by which time Gerry (then 76) was long past the age when most people consider retiring. His enthusiasm for the next project, and his fascination for the latest technology, remained undimmed through much of his final illness. He passed away on 26 December 2012. Despite being relatively shy, and never really spending much time looking back and reminiscing over his achievements Gerry Anderson came to appreciate that for many people his shows represented a special time in their lives. And he was proud that the ingenuity and optimism of his characters galvanised some viewers who went on to distinguished careers within film, television and other fields. Thunderbirds has inspired movies, stage shows and a vast array of merchandise, all reflecting its phenomenal impact on our popular culture, and together with his other shows is cherished by many generations of viewers.
