Sherlock’s much anticipated return on 1st January 2014 contained a surprise for many Gerry Anderson fans! Wanda Ventham made a brief cameo as the mother of Sherlock Holmes (played by Benedict Cumberbatch). In fact both of Cumberbatch’s real parents (Wanda and Timothy Carlton) made an appearance as Sherlock’s parents.
Gerry Anderson fans will recognise Wanda as Virginia Lake from the 1969/70 series UFO, starring in Identified, The Cat With Ten Lives, Destruction, The Man Who Came Back, The Psychobombs, Reflections in the Water, Timelash, Mindbender, and The Long Sleep.
