FAB Facts: Ed Straker’s Second in Command Casting Choices

When production of UFO was temporarily halted after episode seventeen (Sub-Smash), many of the cast had taken on other work by the time episode eighteen (The Sound of Silence) entered production nine months later and so were unable to return to the show. This included George Sewell as second in command Alec Freeman. As discussed on this week’s edition of the Gerry Anderson Podcast, Ed Bishop suggested the role should go to a woman and Wanda Ventham was eventually chosen…but she wasn’t the only candidate for the role!
